Flowmaster American Thunder Cat-Back Exhaust System
JK
Flowmaster Jeep JK
Features & Product Details
The Flowmaster American Thunder Exhaust System has been designed to increase the performance, while improving the sound of your vehicle.
This is a perfect exhaust option for those looking to make improvements in the exhaust note, gain better ground clearance, and add better looks to your vehicle.
JK Flowmaster differences
This particular exhaust system has been fabricated from 2.50” 409 stainless steel tubing, and with polished stainless steel 3” tips.
This is a transverse muffler design that relocates the super HP-2 muffler behind the factory catalytic converter that will make for an aggressive exhaust note. Additionally, the relocation allows for better ground clearance when enjoying the trails.
Once installed expect increases in both horsepower and torque, and improved throttle response.
The hangers on this exhaust system are welded onto the factory-like locations, and clamps, plus an additional rubber hanger is included to be ready for installation.

I mostly bought this because I was tired of banging my stock muffler up on my JKU. It's a great kit for getting high clearance. Pretty easy to put together. The issue is the Flowmaster HP-2 that comes with it. Everyone has different taste, and this wasn't mine. If you want your Jeep to sound like a street racer, go for it. The HP-2 sounds decent at lower RPM (1k-1.5k). Once you go over 2k that's where the terrible sounds happen. I felt embarrassed driving my Jeep around town. Doing some research I found the Vibrant 1141 resonator. I modified my new exhaust to accept the Vibrant in front of the HP-2, pushing the HP-2 a bit towards the rear, next to the evap skid (there was room on the 4 door for this mod). Now it sounds great. Low grumble on idle, a bit louder than stock, but not obnoxious like it was before. I wish I did this mod before installing the kit, cause once you clamp things down, it's very difficult to take apart to put the Vibrant in.
Easy bolt in Installation with superb fitment. Everything tucks up nice and tight providing extra ground clearance in the rear. In a steep drop off, my rear bumper will hit before this exhaust does. Sound is nice. On acceleration, you can hear it, and at cruising speeds its just slightly louder than stock. No real bothersome interior noise at highway speeds. Very High Quality part, as to be expected from Flowmaster.
