Being an OEM kinda guy I initially didn't feel the need to replace the stock Diff cover. I've mistakenly thought, "if Jeep did it this way, there must be a reason." But I had a little extra cash, so purchased the DANA 30 (and DANA 44) Diff covers after my re-gear. Front arrived/installed first: The difference between the stock, metal cover and the DANA 30 Nodular Iron cover is the difference between high school football and the NFL. Both accomplish the same task (in theory): hold fluid in, keep junk out. But when you remove the DANA 30 nodular iron cover from its packaging you immediately understand the value/benefit. It's massively thick; heavier, more robust in every way than the stock metal cover. Banging your front diff on rocks with this cover will protect the innards many times more than the comparatively thin-walled factory cover. The JL's DANA 30 axle is a good axle and worth investing in - to a point. This relatively low-cost upgrade stiffens the pumpkin helping tie the already good axle assm together making it even stronger. It's a breeze to install. Thankfully didn't need to RTV provided - the factory gasket was in perfect condition. It bolted up perfectly, new bolts torqued down perfectly and no leaks the next morning. And bonus; a little bling underneath looks cool too. Subtle, a little Easter egg - but it's there and looks great. Rear one is coming soon (backordered) and when both are on it'll be how it should be: stronger, reinforced, greater protection, great looking. The pumpkin is the lowest point underneath and adding extra protection and better looks is one of hose no-brainer's you just do.
